FLIPPIN, Ark. (June 13, 2019) - Ranger Boats pro angler Robert Walser tied the record for wins on the T-H Marine FLW Bass Fishing League (BFL) by taking first in the most recent BFL North Carolina Division tournament on High Rock Lake. The longtime Ranger Pro notch his 13th BFL circuit win and tied the all-time win record held by Rick Shaffer."I knew I was close to tying the record," said Walser. "I knew when I won in April, they said it tied me for second for all-time wins. With the win on Saturday, I wasn't for sure if I was tied for the lead or not. There's a certain amount of pride that comes with it."
Walser began his competitive fishing career in 1983 by fishing a Red Man tournament and went on to fish the B.A.S.S. Top 100, FLW Tour and the BFL. Consistency is key to amassing 13 wins, but Walser's win total has picked up plenty of steam recently.
"Over the period of the last 18 months, I have won five BFLs," said Walser. "I am kind of in shock. It took me 20 years to win eight of them and in 18 months I have added five more."
According to Walser, his ability to remember prior situations and react accordingly as one of his keys to winning at a consistent level.
"You learn by your mistakes and learn by your successes," said Walser. "I don't keep a log but I can tell you about fish I caught 20 years ago. I have also put in as much time as anyone. There's no substitute for time on the water."
Along with Walser's razor-sharp memory, the angler cites the dependability and performance of his Ranger boat as a vital part of his fishing success.
"I don't even have to think about if I can go and get back," said Walser. "I know that Ranger and Evinrude are going to get me where I need to be. I know my fish are going stay alive. We kind of take it for granted, but that's one less variable I have to worry about."
